Beginning the show in a sleeping state, the models were awoken from cots to begin suiting up for winter’s cold. In a cheeky colorful fashion, designer Thom Browne set the models up for inspection. It’s a studded affair with Ato Matsumoto’s footwear and apparel line, ato, for Spring/Summer 2010. Since ato had been spotted on famed celeb feet such as Kanye West (whose own Nike Air Yeezy is redolent of the ato velcro hi-top sneakers), the designer’s penchant for high drama in shoes has garnered a loyal and loving following outside Japan. Among his work, the designer’s signature Velcro Hi-Cut Sneakers with a generous silhouette and futuristic styling encompassed in the use of thick Velcro straps. Like the other ato sneakers, these are crafted from supple cowhide and dressed in a lavish wash of tough studs in varying shapes on tongue, Vecro straps and toe. Ambush x A Bathing Ape: Kaiju Collection

Extroverts Verbal and Yoon’s label Ambush have joined forces with a Bathing Ape to produce this jacket, shoes and complementary accessories. Performing as Dr. Octagon, Kool Keith created the half-shark-half-alligator-man image and the Japanese designers have realised it. As with previous Bape jackets, this one is split in half – one half takes familiar shark form with the other taking a similarly styled (and fully ‘ambushed’) alligator, which is complete with an Ambush eye and scales over the body. Alongside the jacket, are these Baby Milo rings and a Bape head necklace; both have also been mutated, with Milo’s head being cut to reveal his brain, and with the Bape head being melted. The latter is available in a range of both single and two-tone colourways. As you can see, further accessories along the same theme have also been created, as has this new partially-woven shoe. Again available in prominent colourways, the lace up shoe appears clean, with only a small Bapesta logo on the side-heel. The Kaiju (Japanese for ‘strange beast) mini collection will available Spring 2010.

Californian sunshine lights up the dreary New York winter with Diamond Supply Co. moving into to Lower East Side in the form of a pop-up shop. Diamond Supply Co. is a skateboarding apparel, gear and accessories label created by Nick Tershay a.k.a Nick Diamond back in 1988, when skating evolved from a subculture of surf to a street sport in the cities and away from the sea. Diamond Supply Co. is known for its bravado and cheeky graphics, and of course, the diamond logo which blings out the label’s products down to the “Hella Slick Wax”.

The label’s move to NYC is facilitated and housed by Lower East Side retailer, Prohibit NYC. The space opened today and will be up and running till the end of the year. Not just bringing a dose of the west coast to the city, the pop-up venture actually sports items tailored specifically for the NYC skaters. The NYC items are limited edition and includes apparel ranging from graphic tees, hoodies, pullovers, hoodies and the every-popular varsity jacket– all in a brooding New York black and white with New York specific references. Nike Air Carnivore - Summer 2010

Nike is set to re-release the Air Carnivore, a sneaker that is popular among collectors of original models of unique kicks from yesteryear. This early 90s look is highlighted by the huge midfoot straps and teal and purple color palatte. The midsole is molded in the center and part of the forefoot midsole is a striped, zebra-ish pattern. One major highlight of the sneaker is the Huarache-styled neoprene sock that goes up mega-high on the heel and wraps around with a strap that connects to the sole. When Christian Dior started the French luxury couture house in 1946, his concept was simple and unrelated to menswear– he wanted to make clothes to embellish the female body. Thus, with a female-centric mission, Dior Homme didn’t appear until 2001 when Hedi Slimane was appointed Creative Director for the label and revolutionized the concept of menswear. Dior Homme started with a little rock and roll and slim-fitted androgynous silhouettes that were as popular with men as they were with women. When Hedi Slimane bowed out in 2007, Kris Van Assche inherited the Dior Homme throne and brought in his own aesthetics. Unlike Slimane’s fitted visions, Van Assche delivers a sense of Oriental deconstructionism with doses of casual, refined classic references that is an interesting twist off the Antwerp minimalism.

Under Van Assche’s creative guidance, Dior Homme’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection is a strong line-up of solid casuals adapted from classic menswear staples. The twist on the classic occurs in shapes and volume, as blazers lengthen, widen, and become more architectural yet wisps around the body, fluid to movement. Easy, breezy comes in both shape and material, as sheer seems to be a running concept that not only dominated the women’s runway but has made its way over for the lads. Thus, in terms of footwear, Van Assche keeps the kicks in line with the rest of the outfit and opts for luxury sneakers that are prevalent but difficult to nail these days. But, if anyone could get it right, there is no doubt Van Assche would hit the right spot as he had with his own Spring/Summer 2010 sneakers that take a major play on wrapped and overlapping bunched laces, and is slightly reminiscent of vintage bondage. Carrying the same design sentiment over to Dior Homme, Van Assche mixes the bundle of laces wrapping the ankle with Slimane’s touch of rock through a zipper running down the heel. The colors are kept neutral and simple as of the label’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection in tan, grey, black and white. Everything remains relatively under-embellished otherwise, and the Dior Homme logo is a small embossed body on the side panel. We do anticipate these to be worn with cropped or cuffed baggy cotton pants alongside airy linen shirts and blazers next season, to keep the casual a tad more interesting and edgier than, well, just casual.

Men like looking good and like looking fashionable too and men fashion is very interesting.

But in the rush for trends they can absolutely forget about things men should never do.

Guys, remember, even one only fashion mistake can ruin your entire look! Here are the most common fashion mistakes men make when dressing.

1. Too many colors

You can attract lots of attention wearing a multicolored outfit but this is hardly the attention you are looking for. Restrict the number of colors in your clothes up to three hues and try to choose simple garments. Contrast colors look great together (for example, blue and orange) but do not use too much of them.

As for the tints which are close in the palette (red, pink), they are rarely combinable effectively.

2. Too many patterns

The most radical choice should be limited to three patterns. But to look really good and appropriate opt for one printed garment and a few solid ones.

3. Too many fabrics

Each fabric belongs to a special ‘type’. So, silk is more official than denim and flax is more democratic material. Leather looks more masculine than tweed.

That is why it is significant to combine fabrics basing not only on their texture and color, but also on the ‘type’.

Besides, one should differentiate between summer and winter wardrobe. It might seem strange but men often wear clothes made of heavy thick material in warm weather.

4. Stains

Before putting the garment into the washing machine one should make sure there are no stains on it. If there are ones they might not wash off. Nothing can be more horrible than a perfectly washed suit with stains.

5. Unseasonable clothing

I know it sounds funny but sometimes one can put on a summer garment during winter or vice versa. To avoid that, separate your clothes seasonally and hang them in different closets.

6. Too long/short pants

Try on pants and jeans before you buy them. If the length is wrong even the trendiest pair will look bad.

Remember that khaki pants and suit pants should not go lower than the upper part of your heel.

Jeans can be a bit longer and cover the heel, but avoid choosing a too long model. Shorter pants will create the illusion of shorter legs.

Ensure that your socks aren’t seen when you walk. And just an inch or two of your socks can be seen when you sit down.

7. Too high waist

If nature granted you with a short torso and long legs you need to wear low-waisted pants with front pockets. However, this model will look perfectly on those men who have an ideal tummy.

8. Length of T-shirt

If a T-shirt is too long one will never be able to tuck it in trousers neatly.

Any top should end right at the middle of the fly. If it is shorter than that, your back will expose each time you bend forward.

Try to find a brand that suits you best. This can take long time but the result will be great.

9. Too heavy top

Bright colors, catchy patterns, provocative words and famous logotypes are great but only in certain situations.

In most cases monotone T-shirts will look much more appropriate.

10. Crumpled clothes

One should be always neat and well dressed. This is impossible to achieve if the man doesn’t iron his clothes.

In no way I want to say that men don’t iron their outfits. It’s just that sometimes men don’t pay attention to details. For instance, crumpled fabric between buttons looks terrible.

If you travel much there is always a problem that clothes can get crumpled after a few journeys.

If that happens, wet the crumpled spot and smooth it with your fingers, then dry it off with fan if you have it.

11. Poorly knotted tie

As practice shows the art of knotting a tie is hard but feasible if you train a few times.

And don’t forget that a classic tie should go down to the man’s belt, no shorter or longer.

12. Socks plus sandals

Never ever do that! If you buy sandals forget about socks!

Whenever we hear of a brand making clothing inspired by Where The Wild Things Are, we are a little worried that they take it too far and make it too playful, which is most of the times the case. Even the more refreshing it is to see that Opening Ceremony and Spike Jonze worked on a serious (ok, maybe except for the playsuit) collection that hints at the characters of the iconic book and soon to come film.

“The line features a full range of faux fur pieces for both men and women, subtly evoking Max’s crew of wild friends including Carol, Judith, K.W., Douglas, and Bull. The line even includes Max’s iconic one-piece playsuit – complete with furry-eared hood and raccoon tail. To top it off, Pamela Love has also contributed to the project, creating silver and brass men’s and women’s jewelry inspired by the film’s iconography.”

t's a dilemma every fashionista must face - what to wear to New York Fashion Week.

Under the glare of the media and wanting to stand out from the beautiful young things on the front row even seasoned style muse Miss Piggy can struggle with choosing what show-stopping outfit to wear.

So the peachy puppet has enlisted the help of a diminutive bandy-legged sidekick. No, we don't mean fellow muppet Kermit the Frog but kilt-wearing, American designer, Marc Jacobs.

With friends such as Madonna, Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham, Mr Jacobs is no stranger to glamorous women, and he has picked out a series of couture ballgowns for the larger-than-life character.

The unlikely pair met up at the designer's Spring Street showroom in New York to discuss the important issues of excessive use of accessories, shoes and being an alpha diva.

Marc Jacobs even found time to give Miss Piggy a sneak peek at his Spring/Summer 2010 collection due to hit the runway next month.

After the rave reviews he received for last season's block colour display you'd think the designer would have little to worry about but Mr Jacobs has said how much he is dreading New York Fashion Week.

When asked if he is excited about September's catwalk show, he replied: 'No. Do I enjoy it? Enjoy is a weird word. It's work - work is more what it's about. It's not fun.'

So it seems Marc is finding fun elsewhere, by inviting fuzzy, blonde-haired puppets into his studio and looking forward to his up-coming 'marriage' to boyfriend Lorenzo Martone. Maybe Miss Piggy could be a bridesmaid...

The shoes will see a worldwide roll-out at the end of this month at select COMME des GARCONS stores, including their New York, London, Hong Kong, Paris and Seoul locations. A second launch will take place in October at top Converse retailers in the US, Canada, and China as well as flagship COMME des GARCONS stores.
